Turning Corners
On the other side of six months (she’ll be seven months in a few days), Ruthie has officially turned the corner from infancy to babyhood. It’s a distinction I never contemplated before having children, but it seems that somewhere around this time they begin developing a personality all their own, express different moods, and start showing signs of wants in addition to needs.
It’s also very clear that things are going to start changing more rapidly for the next year or so. It’s not easy to make a direct month-to-month comparison (thanks to the the two months head start Loren had on life that sort of threw off his early developmental clock), but Loren was crawling (that sort of army crawl, dragging style) by about 8 months according to Picasa. He couldn’t sit up without assistance for more than a few seconds, but he could get from one side of his crib or our bed to the other. Really determined and maybe a little out of balance…hmmm…
After spending a weekend with friends Ruthie grasped the sitting up thing very quickly. Just a week later and it’s her favorite way to play. I imagine crawling isn’t far behind, although it seems impossible to believe it could be mere months away.
I’m going to blink and she’s going to be a toddler.
And in college.
